1.    Size matters when it comes to making a choice. LCD HD TV's is at its optimum performance up to and including 32", whilst plasma Televisions offers optimum performance at 37" and above. This is due to LCD's displays having a higher resolution per size and therefore being better suited to close viewing distances, whilst Plasma's monitors have a better contrast ratio, suited to lage screens being viewed at a distance of 2m or more where resolution is not as big an issue as picture quality.

2.    The energy consumption of LCD HD TV's and Plasma Televisios technologies is about the same in normal operating conditions. An LCD screen consumption is constant whereas with Plasma it fluctuates according to the brightness of a scene.

3.    Does Flat Panel TV need re-gasing? No. Plasma TV gases are inert and sealed within tiny cells that are sandwiched between glass plates. There is never any need to re-charge or refill the Plasma Television.
4.    The life span for both is dependent on operation (ie. Picture brightness, environment, etc.) but if both are used in a similar manner, one would expect the life span to be approximately the same, 60 000 hours.

What is a plasma television verses a plasma monitor or display?

Most plasma televisions are technically not a television, they're considered a monitor because they do not have a built in RF tuner. A tuner is a device that allows the user to select different television channels and turns the monitor into a plasma television. There are a number of different devices that can be connected to a plasma monitor that can be used as a tuner, such as a VCR, DSTV PVR, DSD1110 or DSD990 Decoder.
