There are steps you can take to ensure longer and better life from your plasma or LCD display panel:
1) Never leave static images on the unit for more than 6- 10 minutes. Plasma phosphors have become more resilient to burn in, but there risk does still exist. The burn-in effect appears to be a ghosting of the image, which may eventually " wash " out with use. Watch the unit in full widescreen format as much as possible to avoid differentiation between the side bars of the unit.
2) Use Brightness and Contrast levels that are comfortable for viewing. In a brightly lit room you may need to view the Flat Screen TV at a higher contrast and brightness, which will decrease the life of the panel.
NOTE: Manufacturers generally ship plasma and Lcd TVs with the contrast and brightness set at 80 to 100%.
3) Buy a good qualiy brand these are generally built and engineered to a higher standard and will thus last longer.
5) Turn the Display off when not in use.
